At Sandepani, our teaching is built on the 3-C Learning framework: Concept, Command, and Connection.

CONCEPT:
Our conceptual orientation helps our students analytically break down a wide range of topics to its Core ideas and identify the concepts underpinning them. We use unique approaches like concept mapping and skill mapping to immerse ourselves in the “What” and “Why” of things, from subject to subject and their interrelationships. We strive to gradually perfect our ability to grasp the larger questions and challenges confronting various fields and disciplines from its basics to its broadest scopes. We collectively confront the enormous changes reverberating in the world today through the lens of science, economics, language, engineering, ecology, medicine, philosophy, art etc and meditate upon our place in them, so as to not be passive onlookers in the march of history, but to play an active role in them.

COMMAND:
Once the concepts are grasped, we move to the second C, Command – the mastery of skills. Here, the focus is on the “how.” Through repeated, structured, and scaffolded practice, students gain fluency in the academic and life skills that helps them apply their knowledge and themselves to the tasks at hand.
These include consistently exercising key cognitive and critical thinking skills like writing, reading, analysing, communicating and problem solving. As well as emotional and social like teamwork, collaboration etc. With the right balance of support and challenge, learners build confidence and develop command – the ability to apply their skills independently and effectively

CONNECTION:
The final stage is Connection. Learning becomes meaningful only when it is applied to life beyond the classroom. Students at Sandepani apply their knowledge and skills to real-world situations that connect learning across subjects and reflect on their role in the community and the world. Co curricular activities and projects are designed both in semi structured and unstructured formats that explores purpose, curiosity, and responsibility. Eg: Student Entrepreneurship program helps students run a student market, integrating the theory and practice of economics to real life entrepreneurship.
By the time they complete their journey at Sandepani, our students do not just know. They understand and believe in their ability. And they care about why it
matters.

Message from the Director

Dr. KG Vijayalekshmy founded Sandepani School in 2004 with the support of WHI, an organization recognized for its work in educational research and empowerment of women, children, and marginalized communities. WHI holds a special consultative status with ECOSOC, UN.

Dr. Vijayalekshmy is a pioneer of the stress-free education philosophy, which remains rare in India's mainstream education. Sandepani School is among the first research-based schools in India.

She regularly attends UN Global Conferences on Women and is a member of numerous international and national women's organizations. With a doctorate in Women's Studies, her research and work with various social strata have led her to advocate for transformative education and comprehensive mentoring. The stress-free education model she developed is based on a decade of research, focusing on holistic intellectual and emotional development rather than purely academic achievements.

When Sandepani School was founded, education in India was becoming increasingly stressful for parents and children. Many institutions provided a stressful learning environment that negatively impacted children's emotional and psychological development.

Message from the Principal

Sandepani stands out from the rest at a time when education is often becoming commercial, numbers-driven, and distant from the real needs of children.

At the 25th year of my experience in the education sector, the decision to join Sandepani ia nothing less than momentous.

Here, learning is student-centered with small classrooms with 10-15 students allowing every child to get the attention they need. The school’s academics is built on thoughtful, scientific approaches, supported by UN affiliated WHI (Women Empowerment and Human Resources Development Centre of India), respected for its 28 years of impactful work in various fields in Kerala. The school uses clear, well-researched methods to support learning, and sets time-bound goals for progress of each of its children. Beyond academics, students take part in many enriching programs like chess, combat sports, robotics, entrepreneurship, newspaper reading, book clubs, public speaking, and writing — all designed to build leadership, critical thinking skills, discipline and creativity.

What touched me most was the deep sense of mutual respect between teachers and students. Teachers genuinely care for each child and treat them as whole, capable individuals. This care reflects in the students too — they are kind, grounded, and inclusive towards one another.

To me, this is a great opportunity for me to
plunge into a highly rejuvenating experience filled with dynamism, vision and innovation. After spending time here with the team and reviewing the school’s forward looking vision for 2025, I feel proud and thankful to be a part of Sandepani.

Together, we shall strive to revolutionise learning in Kerala to create exceptional human beings with erudition, leadership and empathy who will play a frontline role in taking our society to newer heights.
